One year in Charlotte

I've been wanting to pick things back up on the blog for a while. We've been so busy but this is such an outlet for me, I really missed it! And I absolutely love being able to look back on our life and read all about the good times (and a few bad mixed in) we've had.
I struggled because I knew the name Baby A and Mama J didn't really fit our life anymore. Abigail isn't a baby (cue the tears.. I'm fine, it's fine) and the blog was never JUST about her. It's always been about our life, fun trips, projects, DIYs... I didn't want the name to limit it anymore. SO I decided to redo the whole thing and re-launch on my ONE YEAR anniversary of moving to Charlotte, which happens to be TODAY!
So here we have it, the new and improved blog!
House Full of Huffs
If some things still seem a little wonky, don't be alarmed. I'm still tweaking things to make the full transition over (like the blog's Facebook page - if you were notified of a name change but the new name looked funky, it's because the Facebook rules for name changes STINK and I have to do it in stages for them to approve it)... it's been way harder than I thought! If you seem something that doesn't seem right, just leave a comment and let me know!

I'm so excited to be back. I've got so many fun things planned. I hope you'll stick around!

I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane of the past year. A lot of these are photos I've never posted before, so enjoy!

On April 15, 2018 Abigail and I packed up my trusty 2013 Sorrento and hit the road to North Carolina. It was the longest I've ever driven (by myself or with another person) and I was terrified. Billy was still traveling for work (he was gone for months and months and it was so difficult) so it was just me and my girl for 9 hours. We killed it ;)
Two weeks later I flew back to Florida and Billy flew from New Jersey to Florida. We closed on the sale of our house and hit the road again. I drove our second car, Billy drove the biggest Uhaul they made and for the second time in 14 days, I drove another 9 hours to our new city. We don't have any pictures of that second drive because it honestly wasn't fun. We were mentally exhausted and ready to be settled. Billy flew back out to NJ the very next day for work.

We spent a lot of time at the National White Water center....

I turned 32... and drank a lot of these delicious wine in a can things...

Four days later, Abigail turned 5...

And the next day we celebrated Mother's Day...

Billy FINALLY came home for GOOD a couple of weeks later...

We spent a lot of time climbing Crowders Mountain... the views are so beautiful from the top...

We discovered a theme park better than Disney... Carowinds! It's basically become our second home...

We took a trip to Wilmington, NC, visited the beach and I checked 'visiting all of the One Tree Hill locations' off my bucket list…

She was cute...

We took THE BEST vacation ever to Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge, TN and Asheville, NC (and got to bring my nephew, Nathan which made it that much better!)...

We saw SO many concerts at the PNC Pavillion (including Dave Matthews, which is a yearly staple)...

We checked off Abigail's first concert (Charlie Puth!)...

WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! Our most favorite, amazing, everything we were looking for in a house, HOUSE!

I flew back to Florida 3 hours after we closed on our house, for the sole purpose of seeing Taylor Swift's Reputation show... so worth it ;)

Billy went skydiving for his birthday and I nearly had a heart attack even though I went skydiving just a year or so before...

Abigail started Kindergarten...

And then we were confused because we thought we didn't live in Florida anymore and then we were smack dab in the middle of two hurricanes and nearly lost our brand new house...

We live 5 minutes from Lake Norman and it's perfect...

We walked to Starbucks from our house... a lot....

We went to a pumpkin patch and actually had to wear jackets because it's cold in October here and it's lovely...

I discovered my love for wallpaper and have rediscovered my love for decorating (more on that to come AND IT'S EXCITING!!!)...

We had a housewarming party that I didn't take any pictures of because I was having too much fun. But our house was filled with people we love and it was the best!

We discovered how fun wigs are when you put them on a 5 year old for halloween...

And realized that people in NC go ALL OUT for Halloween... our neighborhood was a scene from Hocus Pocus with hundreds of kids on every street and it made my heart so, so happy!...

We watched movies in the park and bought a lot of turtlenecks...

My family came to NC for thanksgiving and we took corny pictures... because that's who we are...

We were cold and bought matching clothes...

And visited Santa in our town's square and it looked like a scene from Gilmore Girls...

And then we all had the literal BEST DAY OF OUR LIVES... we woke up to a real life snowstorm and we stayed outside all day and went sledding and I cried at how pretty it was and it was perfect...

And I took a lot of pictures... our backyard...

Our front yard...

We have made some of the best friends ever and we are so, so grateful!...

We drove to Florida for a pre-Christmas celebration at the beach...

And she was cute again...

We spent Christmas day in our new house with my parents... if you look closely, you can see the Flu getting ready to attack me...

I spent the week between Christmas and New Years as sick as ever, but still managed to have a little fun...

We took a little vacation to Great Wolf Lodge.
An indoor heated waterpark resort hotel in the dead of winter was a perfect idea...

We sat courtside at the Hornets game (thanks, dad!) and brushed elbows with Bobby Flay and locked eyes with Michael Jordan and then I hurt my foot again and fell, literally into one of the coaches...

We cheered for the Panthers...

And I bought a hair crimper...

And then I finally had foot surgery and it was awful...

And the very next day our girl had a ceremony for being awarded for having excellent Leadership skills...

We got a cat... still TBD on how I feel about that, which I'm sure you can understand from this picture...

We went to Savannah to watch Billy run a marathon and my mom run a half marathon.. so proud of them!...

And while we were there we soaked up all we could of the gorgeous weather and beach...

We renewed our Carowinds passes and didn't waste any time...

Billy took Abigail to their first sweetheart dance and my heart has never been so happy...

And we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary (12 years total at the end of this month!)...

Whew! That was a lot.
Moving to Charlotte has been one of the best decisions we have ever made. We absolutely love it here and think we picked the perfect place to settle down and start this next chapter. While some days have been tough, we have honestly never been happier!

Thanks for reading. I'm so happy to be back!
